Former Melton Mowbray Hospital Redevelopment Demolition

Project Overview: Snowdon Homes has entrusted Jim Wise Demolition with the critical demolition phase at the former Melton Mowbray Hospital site, located on Thorpe Road, Melton Mowbray LE13 1SJ. The project encompasses the careful demolition and clearance of multiple structures, including one-, two-, and three-storey buildings. Notably, a strategically positioned two-storey building at the site's center is earmarked for retention, forming an integral part of the upcoming redevelopment.

Responsibilities and Collaboration:Jim Wise Demolition, acting as the Principal Contractor for Snowdon Homes, will play a pivotal role in overseeing and executing the demolition phase. Subcontracted to Snowdon Homes, JWD assumes the roles and responsibilities of the Principal Contractor under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM). This includes ensuring compliance with health and safety standards throughout the demolition process.

Scope of Demolition Works:The comprehensive scope of works entails the demolition of all designated buildings, incorporating the meticulous removal of asbestos and responsible waste disposal. To facilitate future development, the slabs and foundations of the demolished structures will be methodically grubbed up and crushed on-site to 6F2 specifications.

Project Timeline:The demolition project is set to commence on October 23, 2023, with a projected duration of 12 weeks. This timeline underscores a commitment to efficiency without compromising the safety and precision required for such intricate demolition activities.

Site Management and Welfare Facilities:Jim Wise Demolition takes charge of providing and maintaining appropriate welfare facilities, ensuring the well-being of on-site personnel. Additionally, JWD assumes responsibility for the security of the entire site, guaranteeing a controlled and safe environment throughout the demolition phase.
